One of the most confounding questions that most LARP organizers face is "Where do I get new players?" This can be a tricky situation for in most regions the pool of available LARPers is often divided amongst several campaigns or events on any given weekend.
NERO International has possibly found a new market to tap in thier latest partnership with a major entertainment company.
Who might that be?
Sony Online Entertainment is a six hundred pound gorilla in the Internet gaming industry. With properties such as Everquest, Everquest II, Star Wars Galaxies and The Matrix Online in thier stables, they are an intellectual property mountain waiting to be scaled.
NERO International appears to want to plant their flag on top and break out the party favors.
I stumbled across a website not too long ago, that might be the next big marketing push for NERO International.
The site is playeverquestlive.com.
WHOIS lists the following Info:
Administrative Contact:
NERO International Holding Co., Inc.
Joseph Valenti (

)
+1.XXXXXXXXXX
Fax:
p.o. box XXXX

US
What does this mean? Well it means tapping into a userbase that was at one time the largest computer gaming market in the United States. It means that NERO International will have no shortage of potential material for a large number of events.
The possibilities are staggering. Whether this lives up to the potential or not remains undetermined, but the possibility is that NERO International is about to become very big, very fast. Will they be able to cross the bridge from hobby into popular entertainment? Will this be the deal that puts LARP on the map for the gaming industry as a whole? We can only watch and find out. |
